A rhinoplasty is designed to alter the shape and appearance of the nose. It is carried out under general anaesthetic and takes anything between one to three hours to perform depending upon how much work needs to be done.
Nose surgery can be performed as either a closed or open procedure. During a closed procedure, tiny incisions will be made inside the nose. Then, depending upon the alterations required, nasal bone, skin and cartilage will be remodelled.
During an open rhinoplasty, Mr Nigel Horlock will make an incision at the base of the columella, lifting the skin away from the nose. This means better visibility and access to the structure of the nose to sculpt the tissue and cartilage.
It is a complex procedure, so patients do need to ensure they are choosing a reliable and experienced surgeon to carry it out. Mr Horlock has extensive experience with rhinoplasty procedures, and he will discuss likely results prior to the surgery.
