BROW LIFT
One of the earliest signs of ageing on the face is drooping, heavy brows. As we age, the muscles and skin around the brows can start to weaken, causing them to sag. There may also be issues with brow symmetry.

A brow lift can help to eliminate the sagging skin, while also improving the appearance of the forehead. In many cases, it can also reduce the appearance of hooded eyelids. Patients who initially think they might need an eyelid lift to correct the problem may actually benefit more from a brow lift.
Below, you will discover more about this procedure and what you can expect from the results.
+ What is a brow lift?
A brow lift can be carried out as an open or closed procedure. An open procedure involves making an incision either right behind, or along the natural hairline. The muscles will then be released before any excess fat and tissue are removed. The muscles and skin will be lifted and stitched firmly into position.
With the closed technique, just a few incisions are made along the hairline. An endoscopic camera and specially designed tools will then be used to lift the tissue and muscles into a different position where they will be stitched into place. The type of procedure you undergo will depend upon the problems being corrected.
+ Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?
If you are generally healthy, a non-smoker and you suffer from wrinkles between the brows and hooded eyelids, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift. It targets ageing signs in the upper face, so if you’re concerned with loss of definition along the jawline and neck then a lower facelift or neck lift might be more appropriate. Mr Horlock will assess your suitability for the procedure during your consultation.
+ What results can you expect from a brow lift?
Results of a brow lift are typically immediately seen. However, there may be some swelling and bruising which could hide the full results for the first week or so after the procedure. The full results will typically be seen within a few months.
+ What is the recovery like after a brow lift?
You will be provided with full aftercare instructions to follow after the procedure. It takes around 10 to 14 days for patients to return to work and normal activities. However, the healing process itself will take a number of weeks and it may take several months to achieve a full recovery.
+ What are the risks and complications?
Although usually minimal, there are some risks and complications associated with a brow lift. These include:
Although all efforts are made to minimise scarring, there may still be a scar visible after a brow lift. It can also cause slight asymmetry issues where one eyebrow appears higher than the other. Many patients find minor asymmetry issues correct themselves as the brows heal. However, if it doesn’t, further surgery may be required to treat significant asymmetry issues.
Some patients may also experience a temporary or sometimes permanent numbness at the forehead or at the top of the scalp. Due to the fact that incisions are made along the hairline, it can also lead to issues such as an elevated hairline or some degree of hair loss.
Other potential complications and risks include reactions to the anaesthetic, infection and bleeding. Mr Nigel Horlock will run through the full list of risks and complications during your consultation so you can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with brow lift surgery at this stage.
